Help, my 22re, seems to be getting gas in the oil, i checked my oil level the other day and it was above the F and smelled like gas, and felt about like wd-40, the engine seems to run perfect, with no bad sounds, had the injectors leak tested, and replace the cold start injector, but still has the problem. it has about 450 mi on it since the last oil change. any suggestions?

The only way to get gas in the oil is through the rings, unless you have a mechanical fuel pump, (Not on a FI motor). You have checked the obvious things. The only other thing that occurs to me is that your thermostat is keeping the engine cold, resulting in a constant rich mixture (more likely), or the temp sensor is bad (Less likely), so that the computer thinks the motor is cold. Check for codes, and last resort, change 02 sensor. Good Luck!

I agree, somehow excess gas is washing past the cylinder and into the crankcase. A few more things for you to check, before throwing more parts at it: check fuel press, make sure it's not too high or the regulator is bad, make sure you've got nice strong spark, also, I might unhook the cold start injector altogether. Maybe there's a short or something causing it to run too long, even with the new injector..Good luck. Don't drive it like that too long, you'll find yourself putting bearings in it too, cause the oil is dilluted so bad.

Bad airflow sensor had my truck running really rich It really puzzled me but change the airflow sensor and ran good as new and the exhaust didn't stink any more. Check to make sure the flap is moving

Check your t-stat and make sure it is not stuck open and letting thr engine get up to operating temp and allowing certain sensors to turn off and others to turn on.

I would say this is definitely it. Change the Tstat, use a toyota one, and chuck the old one in a pan of water, check to see when it opens. Hell, it is probably stuck open dead cold! If it ain't the Tstat, however, I believe that the same sending unit that drives the gauge also drives the ECU.

i pulled very lightly on the wire to the sending unit, and it popped out so i got a new thermostat and sending unit just to eliminate all problems. so now my problems shoud be taken care of, hopefully. thanks for all the help!
