Gen 2 Montero SR- is it possible to engage rear air locker in 2wd?

A year or two back I tried to mess with the pump for the rear air locker to engage it while in 2wd with basically zero knowledge about the thing other than I knew i had to get power to it to engage it..I put 12v source to it via a small battery and possibly fried the thing unless theres a fuse someplace that popped. really hoping I didn't fry the thing cause replacements are stupid expensive from what I've seen and I'm not even sure if I did actually did kill the thing for sure.. if I remember right the pump ran at like 5v or something and I only found that out after I put 12v to it.

Anyways the r/d lock button on the center console no longer does anything while in 4lo as none of the 4x4 lights in the middle of the dash stay solid like they used to when I'd previously press it so I know I screwed something up.. but I still want to be able to enable that air locker in 2wd somehow purely for some sideways entertainment on icy dirt roads and open fields full of snow.

anyone know how I can get that original pump/actuator under the pass side rear seat working again, or am I SOL since I gave it too much juice? Also curious if anyone knows of a cheap small airpump(heard some talk of an aquarium powerhead that might supply the 6psi needed to engage the rear air locker)I could put in its place if I did fry the thing so I could run a normal 12v power source to and throw another toggle for someplace or by some miracle rig it up to the original diff lock button.

Yes I know it was extremely stupid of me to dive into it with literally no knowledge, but the old timers on the biggest facebook group for monteros basically just kept saying 'it cant be done' or 'what's the point' instead of any useful info.. so I took a chance.

Sorry for the jumbled wall of text as I'm posting from my phone while at work- if you need any info cleared up or more info I'll be glad to respond.

Have you checked the fuses and relays to your onboard air??? Start with that.
To make it work in 2wd you'll likely have to isolate all the power feeds and route them to a different switch and disconnect the failsafes from the PCM and transmission that prevents it from being actuated in 2 WD or above 30mph. You will need wiring maps and a a test light and multimeter at the minimum. !!Time to learn about wiring.....!!
And, likely the pump is fine but the fuses fried,or something along the circuit ...obviously... lol.

And for 6psi...I would rig a cheap 12v tire pump...hehe

Yeah I've got a cheap harbor freight pump ready for that incase haha...- I'll need to find the FSM download again specifically for the 95 SR's wires/fuses/relays to check them all out again.

Fairly competent with wiring as I've been messing with multimeter on electronics since I was really young so it shouldn't be too bad.

Was just hoping there was an easy route that didn't have me pulling apart everything 😅
