Grinding concrete

Prepping for an epoxy floor in a residential basement. Currently grinding concrete with a rented grinder, we stripped off old mastic floor adhesive, and under that is a coating of tar over the concrete.
The diamond * we use were working well but after a few hours the tar starts “melting” into the concrete rather than stripping off. Half of the floor looks good and half doesn’t.

I don’t know how else to describe it.

I suspect the heads are getting hot, thus melting / softening the tar. There is no speed control on the grinder but it generally runs slow.

Tomorrow I may try hooking up water hose instead of using the vacuum for dust control, hoping the water may help keep things cool. Don’t really want the water in the basement though.

Anyone have a better suggestion? I have ground a lot of concrete but never ran into this.

Gonna suck but a leaf burner and regular floor scaper to melt and scrape as much as possible away?

I'd also wear some type of cleat so you're not stepping in it.

should be wrenching or wheeling but here I be
