Unless you only do mud, I wouldn't get them. The ones I had were way out of round, and had very thin sidewalls. they worked pretty good in mud, not as agressive as a bogger. I wouldn't run them on rocks or a trail rig. Just my $.02

I have a customer that I sold 4 36x14.50r16.5 10plys to in april, when inflating #4 (after other 3 are already mounted and balanced) we find ith is seperated and looks like it has a football in-between the plys. we put his old tires back on and order another tire. Two months later in june the rr tire throws the tread. october lf tire does the same thing.
3 junk tires, 4,500mi, seven months on an over sized grocery getter. we put 35 bfg muds back on.
obviously im not a ground hawg fan.

tires

maybe I got some bad info.. I was told the radial has a six ply side wall and have seen three sets of these tires on fj40's at work with 12 pounds of air and they deflect well , good traction , and never seperated . Did have one pop a bubble in sidewall , manufacturer replaced. Ground Hawgs come in radial and bias ply , would like to hear from someone who has experience with both. Sorry woody , guess I'll do more research on these tires

I think it was me that was bagging on the Ground Hawgs....not Woody.

I do have first hand experience with bias Ground Hawgs.

They are, simply put, the worst tires I have ever owned. They rode like hell, the WORE like hell and they did not do very well in the mud, compared to Swampers in my opinon.

They are extrememly expensive for what you get and they are directional, which, in my opinion..is a huge hassle.

Anyway, if you like them, fine....no need to be defensive here on Pirate.

We all have our opinions, but then again, opinions are like assholes and this place is a a Proctology convention of those....

bias vs. radial

yeah I agree about the bias ply , they suck , but the radial seems to be totally different animal . Have you ever run on the radial's? I talked to some local guy's and they seem to shy away from them because they felt you can get tires for the intended use that are much cheaper and non-directional. Also , said , " I don't know , never tried them cause theys a muud tire and not for rocks"...
I don't get defensive , just don,t want to go into the mountain with inferior or possibly injury causing tires on my truck. For what I paid I thought I'd be gettin the top of line tire , All the years behind Denman I find it hard to believe they'd price these things where they are unless thought there was damn good reason someone would pay price , especially in the target area youd figure for these tires?

never run them so i dont have any REAL help for you.

why are they priced high? cuz show trucks like big tires, and they will pay out the arse to get them. those are big name tires, just like boggers. Neither one is ideal for street use.

just a thought.

Naw, I bagged them too.

The ONLY people around here who have them also are mud-exclusive drivers. The types where big blocks and 10" lifts are the norm. These guys swear by them, radial and bias, and claim they are best tire in the world....they are also point-shoot drivers where the right foot is king and crawling is non-existent.

Checkout the Top Truck Challenge...IIRC, most every WI rig sent there about 4-5 years ago ran them.

I've been on the trails with some VERY well built machines who's owners insisted on these tires....they spent their day pissed that a simple little rig like mine was able to spank them on obstacles...they never wanted to admit that a part of that was tires selection.

Ground Hawgs and Gumbo Mudders are made by Denman who makes Interco Super Swampers as well.

I think they make them to placate the old school mud crowd, but it's pretty clear they are a dated tire. Back in the old days, they were the tire of choice and do work well in the mud with lots of power but NOT like a swamper.

Been there and done that. Nothing works like a swamper and just because they are all made by the same company does not mean squat. Mac Tools are made by Stanley ...
