Hey I bought a Hilux, surf, 2L, turbo, diesel ,EFI, Auto, four weeks ago It was running perfectly until last sunday, it overheated (out of the blue) and now its in the wshop blown head gasket + cracked head,nearly $4000 NZ later i'm wondering whether or not this a common problem ,and or ways to avoid it in the future,
after reading a couple of your past post there are issues with , thermostats, rads, ect any ideas would help .

Yes, it is a common problem to be charged a lot of money when someone else fixes your truck.

The best way to avoid it in the future is to learn to do the work yourself.

Sorry to say but it looks like you have a cracked head on your 2.4L
Common problem i'm afraid.

Suggest you check out following forum on Hilux Surfs, which is you are in NZ you probably have.

They have a lot of info on the head cracking problem.

I have heard that alot of the Surfs that are imported from Japan have a much to small radiator for that famouse Aussie heat. I have also heard that the earlier 2L's are less prone to cracking when over heated.
