Is there a specific headers that I should use for the V8 in my 40? Block huggers? Blazer headers? Any feedbacks will be a PLUS.

I just went with the hedman headers from summit. I had some others I forget the name but be careful because the ones that I cant remember the name of rubbed the steering shaft and rubbed a hole right through them.

Track down a set of center dump "Rams Horn" manifolds. There were stock on 'Vettes and other cars. Another good style is from a early 70's Chevelle. I suggest some type of header coating for either to help reduce engine compartment heat.

Just my opinion.....

You can buy the new factory GM parts - with or without air injection ports. I have the P/N at home for the ones with air ports - let em know if you need it

Here's the P/N's for the rams horns:

Drivers Side: GM 14037671-W
Passenger Side: GM 14037672-W

These are from an 82 'vette (so they have the ports for air injection).

JUST GET THE BLOCK HUGGER HEADERS FROM SUMMIT........LIKE 80$ OR THE HOOKER ONES 130$ GET A LITTLE MORE POWER CAUSE THEY FLOW BETTER....AND SOME POWER FROM THE HEAT DISAPATION.............

DO YOU HAVE A MOTOR MOUNT KIT FOR YOUR V8.......I HAVE ONE IF YOU NEED ONE.........

HOW WAS THAT DRIVE?

The slickest set out there right now ifs from Sanderson Headers.

All the street rod guys run them 'cuz they are clean looking and best simulate the rams horns of the Sixties.

Just my $.02

nightcrawler-

I do not have the P/N for the no air-port manifolds. I do know you can just get brass plugs at any auto parts store to plug the ports. I could verify they fit and work, except I have a smog legal (wink, wink, cough, cough) V8 in my FJ40

The other option is to ask the GM parts desk guy if there is a set without the air ports that are the same design.

The sanderson ones recommended above are very nice - but are more spendy than the GM ones. So why pay more for the Sandersons that are trying to duplicate the original GM design, when you can purchase new from GM?

Just my POV.

mine are the stock ones on my '72 350..they have smog fittings on them, but you can plug them or get ones w/out the fittings on them..i like them and they are great with how my exhaust is routed...and they are cheap if you ever need new ones

I bought a set of rams horn manifold from old model corvette for measly 40 bucks in nearby junkyard. Now, the question is, this manifold came off from a 327. Will it fit a 350 with 882 series heads easily w/o any mods?

I do have the motor mount for the V8. Thanks for the offer. By the way, the drive was short and sweet. I took your advice and made a trip to Anaheim and back home in the same day. It sure felt like I was on a Cannonball run tho.

I just swapped in a LT1 engine in my FJ 40 and found the Sanderson headers QP1000 the best fit for my application. They are cast, center dump, and ceramic coated. The collectors are 2.5". They hug the block and leave about 4 inches between the fame and header for the steering shaft. The Sanderson website had a lot of useful technical data to help pick the best header. I had been told that the corvette rams horm was the standard solution but I wanted to add a little more performance. BTB used to sell the rams horn headers.

Be careful if you are going to pick up a set of Rams horn style mainifolds from a junkyard. I did this and it was one of the biggest mistakes I made. First off, they ended up being from a truck and not a vette. So the collector was only 2" and not 2 1/2". Next, the studs that stick out of the mainfold were rusted beyond repair and I had to have a machine shop remove them and helicoil the threads back in. Next, one of the tabs that holds stud in broke off and I had to have it welded back on. So after only spending $40 initially to get a set of Rams horn manifolds that were the wrong size, I ended up dumping $80 into them. Now they are for sale if anybody wants them.
To replace them, I just went with a set of center dump block hugger headers from Southern Rods and Parts. They are Jet -hot coated inside and out and only cost 174.50. They look great and fit really nice.
