Yes, I searched, but didnt find anything that matches what I am wanting to do.

The fan works, the switch works proportionally on all settings.

On the highest setting, it works like it would on the second highest setting. Is there a way to bump up the flow through the fan?

there is a little part on the fan, reostat? that goes out leaving only 1 or 2 speeds, sorry that the best I can do, or just get an adjustable reostat. follow the power wire to the fan, you will find the part or circut board I am thinking of. or look at off-road.com or roger browns page for the info.

those coil things arent burnt out. (if thats what you are referring to)
ya I think that is what I remember. like gnob says, 12v direct to check.

this is how you check to make sure the circut is correct.

check the voltage drop across the heater when it is running,

wiht the car off you should be dropping about 12.5, or 14+ running. if you are off by more than a couple tenths of a volt, you are losing it somewhere, either through bad ground or corrosion.

proceed the rest of the circut, if the reading is out of spec.

On all Toyota trucks, when the key is turned on, battery voltage is sent directly to the blower motor. The dash switch GROUNDS the blower motor. In the high position, the switch supplies a 100% ground and the motor runs at full speed. In the lower positions, the ground is put thur the blower resistor which results in slower fan speeds. This produces heat, so the blower resistor is always mounted in the air box for cooling! Checking for proper voltage and grounds is very inportant, however, dont forget to check for debris in the cage fan. Even a gum wrapper will greatly reduce the air flow. I have waisted a lot of time with a voltage meter to finally realize it was junk in the cage fan.:flipoff2:

Thanks.

I was planning on running a couple jumper wires to test it, but I dont have any tools here. So I was looking for all possibilities before I get to the shop.

I was hoping I wouldnt have to pull the fan out. I pulled the fan in my dads 91 toyota. What a pain in the ass.

Mice are a big problem here. They like to make a nice little house in the fan cage. and they slow it down. Stink pretty good when they die in there to. We get them alot at work (Toyota Dealer) during the winter.

Pull the fan and motor out and have a look inside. My '85 first burned out the resistors and a few years later started to run slower and slower and finally would cut out periodically. Opened up the motor and found the brushes were worn down to nothing:

New set of brushes and its as good as it was before:

Do you have any pics of the motor actually being pulled apart? I tried to pull the motor apart on my dads truck and I broke the porcellin tabs and it was all junk. I dont want the same thing to happen to mine ;)
