I keep burning up my ignition mod on a 78 chevy 350. I think it is getting to much power run thru it. Yes I put the grease stuff under it. Voltage is ok on the meter. Only thing I can think is the alt. What happens is I drive it for say 10 miles turn it off, go to restart and nothing, change Mod and it fires??? Anyone know my problem????

Did you upgrade to a larger output coil??
I was told that if you upgrade to a bigger coil you have to upgrade the chip to handle it. the old chip can't handle the power.

Just a thought..

I used to drive a GMC 7000 w/a 366 BBC for work, that used to burn through ignition modules (large cap HEI). I don't remember the details, but they replaced the worn original distributor, and it solved the problem. Something about the bushings being worn out, I don't know how that could have done it, but it worked. The truck also was getting horrible milage, and had low power before the new distributor.

I would check the slop in your distributor.
