Im Ebaying a helmet cam right now. After seeing some riding footage on youtube I just had to have one. So I bid on a few, lost them. Finally I win a bidding war on one, cool.

I dont have a clue about these cameras, it never dawned on me that it needs a freakin recording device of some sort, Duh. So now im shopping around for a video recorder, or DVR or whatever they call it.

Can anybody tell me an ideal, portable recorder for a decent price? Basically, I want to use it riding, maybe strap it to my truck and even take it sailing every once in a while.

I guess It would help to provide the camera info. This is off the ebay sellers description:

This kit comes complete with the Sony HAD CCD camera, Inline Microphone, Power Pack, Big Grip Mount and Universal Cam Mounts. I bought a Go pro.. Freaking awesome with fantastic video quality.. With the 32 gig card you can record a couple hrs or more of HD.. Can't wait to get some good videos once it drys up here in a few weeks..
The GoPro looks like an awesome camera, a bit pricy for me right now though. I just wanted somthing cheap to screw around with. Im guessing the GoPro is an All-In-One unit and you dont need a DVR?
I bought mine about 8 months ago and it seems prices have really gone up.. But yea they take a sd card.. So you just pull the card and load it in your comp.. You can link it with a cable too.. If you shop around I think you can get one for around $200 on sale

Just bought one of these, Guys are raving about them for 15 bucks.. There is a thread on thumpertalk with a bunch of folks posting videos.. I have not used mine though

for $15 I couldn't resist will post some results when it shows up.
I just checked out the vids on thumpertalk. Not bad for a little Camera!

My problem is, I HAVE the camera, I just need a DVR to plug it into. I have the technology to hook it to my laptop.....but no matter how hard I try, the laptop just wont fit in my pocket :D
My suggestion is to look at DJI Osmo or Sony cameras. They are not that pricey and will be worth using for live recording footage. Most of them are waterproof which makes a great recording experience.
