I have a 91 E250 w/efi 5.0/AOD. Has always ran great till this am. I hit the gas to pass a semi, then upon passing, found that I had "cruise control" that is, take foot off gas, keep going. I do not have cruise control. Stopping is standing on the brake, with the engine roaring at ~2500 rpm. Under load, it feels like 1/3 trottle min. at all times. I can go faster, but not slower. If I give it just a little gas, sounds almost like its detonating. Upshifts waay too early, downshifts early too. A lot less power than usual. So I pulled the airbox, air hoses, looked good. Butterfly valves didnt look stuck, appeared to close all the way, but I hosed em down with cleaner anyway. I pulled the idle solenoid connector with no change. All the throttle springs, and cable look okay. It looks like the intake valve is closing properly while off, but come to think of it, I didnt check while running. There is a second cable that goes down to the AOD, attached to the throttle, I think to control shifting. Seems to operate okay, but Im not sure what it is supposed to look like. WTF am I missing?

Dude I do not have a clue other than maybe in the mass air sensor.I had one go bad in a 91 5.0 and it did crazy throttle stuff but not that bad.I just thought about it I got a vacum leak where the pcv valve went in at the rear of the intake and it throttled up like crazy.Take some crab cleaner and with the motor running spray around the intake and the hoses and see if the throttle jumps anywhere you spray if so you have a vacum leak there.Good luck.Post if you get it fixed by the weekend if not I will ask my ford buddy this weekend all he does is race fords and work on them..

check ur throttle cable at the throttle body . Ford put this stupid plastic piece inside the spring and mine got caught and then another time cracked. Same thing happended to me. I know you said you checked it but it could be hanging up in the spring, hence holding the cable and pedal inplace at 2500 rpm. It may be worth a try to mess with that.

:) I know you said you checked it but it could be hanging up in the spring,

do check throttle cable, high rpm makes no manifold vaccum(which runs the brakes) which explains the bad brakes. also could be worn out shaft going through the throttle body to control the "butterflys" that open up the ai flow. I don't think 91 trucks had mas air meters yet. they were not as fortunate as the cars till I think 93.
I have had a similar problem in a 89 f-250 with a 5.8 and there was a hose that travels under the plastic cover for the throttle linkage, and it was resting against the throttle on the throttle body, I removed the plastic and pushed the hose out of the way.
