I was sitting at a stop light this afternoon, and all of a sudden my charge, and brake light came on. I looked down at my voltmeter, and it was pegged past 16 volts. I pulled the voltage regulator off, and tore it down, one of the contacts inside was broken off. I replaced the regulator, and the lights are still on. the funny thing is before i changed the regulator, I had the engine running, and pulled the positive cable off the batt, it kept running. after changing the regulator, I tried the same thing, and the engine shuts off. So I had a spare alternator laying around (I think it good), I swaped it out, and the engine still shuts down when I pull the + cable. Do you guys have any ideas?? I am going to take the alternators down to have them tested tomorrow, but if they are not the problem what else could it be?????

Thanks Will
