As the title says, mom and dad are thinking about getting me a torch set for x-mas and they asked me about them victor knock offs on ebay and I told them that they were junk then they came across the hobart heavy duty kit and asked me about them, I have used there welders in school and havent had any problem with them, but never there torches so I figure I would ask you guys here.

I would have to say that victor is not a knock off. for the best torch i would go with smith, or victor had mine for years and never had a problem with it. with the victor you can always find parts and other tips you may want to use.

He was referring to the "Victor-Compatibles chicom specials(40-80 easily on e-bay)," not Victor torches.

I'd go with a Victor Journeyman Set myself also. If all you are going to do is just cut, go with a plain cutting torch. If you are like me, and sometimes like having the option to gas weld, silver solder, or braze, get a combination welding/cutting torch kit. The real choice is whatever is availible locally. I can get Victor parts at my local welding supply and industrial supply house. Smith is also another good choice as the person below me states. The choice is dependant upon local supply availability.
Smith is the best, stainless steel/lifetime warranty. Look on ebay, they can be had for less than a Victor set from your local welding shop.
