So I read the article on on-board welders and this is my question. I already have a 175 amp G3 (internally regulated) altenator.

Since it's regulated at 175 amps, can't I just wire up the converter to it and call it good? Is the point of going with the Ford altenators to get around the regulator which makes it so that it will put out more juice?

I can't run a second altenator (easily) as I have a serpentine belt and don't want to mess with it.

Thanks!

I think your voltage will be too low 14.4 volt range. Without the reg the voltage will in part be determined by engine RPM.

well your regulator in your alt is going to put out 12 to 14 volts... Not enough to weld with
