ordered my plans mid day on 7-30, got them late that evening. very well put together set of plans. i'm gathering the pieces now and cant wait to get started building it so i can bend some tube for my yj
What's the latest consensus on a source for the pins? Price?
For the 7/8" shafts I just bought the hardened precision Thompson shaft in 12" lengths from McMaster Carr, #6061K333 for $13.94 each.

precision dia shaft is of course totally unnecessary, BUT a one foot length of 7/8" dia steel hardened, non-precision shaft, can hardly be had anywhere for much less than that, anyway lol.
As long as the pump is at the bottom of the reservoir, they will work horizontally.
Seems like a whole lot of extra fab.

Why don't you guys just clone the protools 105 bender...thats what I did. It only cost $25 in surplus steel, arms are 5/8 thick.

Hi I´m Luis from Brownsville How can I clone the protools 105 bender? my email: [email protected]
tube bender

Sorry to be a S.A. here.....
If you're not crafty enough to clone the bender, I doubt you are crafty enough to build the clone.......
Just sayin.... :shaking:

Maybe he's just not crafty enough to work the internet. Looks to me like the Pro-tools website doesn't work so good anymore, or they're just no longer sharing drawings for their bender.
Well I was going to post mine, but can't figure out how to post pics.lol

Maybe he should be looking at some trails less traveled, Cad drawing aren't that hard to find hell there was one posted in this section a few weeks back JSG comes to mind.
Tried the search, didn't really bring up much on the subject.

Regarding anyone that's made their own dies;

What material have you used?
Any tips on making the cuts?

I've got my eye on a few pieces of 9"x12" round stock A6. It's free, which is the main selling point... If not I can get A2 in any size pretty cheap locally. Some guidance on making the die would really help, but chances are I'm going to buy a 1.5" 240 degree 7"CLR die from pro-tools just so I can wrap my head around turning one down on the lathe.
Gottrikes plans

Anyone ordered plans from Mr Takacs lately? I ordered mine about a week ago and haven't heard anything. Anyone have a number for him?
gottrikes plans

I just ordered plans this afternoon and received by email a few hours later.

I would suggest checking your spam or junk folder.
He got back to me also. I guess he was just out of town. Thanks
dos anyone have a number for Frank Takacs ? I ordered plans from him and have not recieved them yet.

drop him an email. sometimes he is out of pocket for a day or three. you will definately get them.
I think it's been 10 years or so since I built my bender, we aren't a shop that does a ton of tube bending but it has done a great job (even 1-1/4") round bar.

With the air/hyd conversion, it is fast and easy. Since the bender, bends up it is very easy to measure bends with a digital level.
Highly recommend if you have limited room.

Cheers,
Jon
hate to revive an old post but does anyone know if Frank still selling his plans? I've emailed him but haven't heard back. Thanks.
I don't know if this is allowed here or not but I bought a set of plans and didn't end up using them as I bought a JMR race line (just the arms), If anyone is interested PM me.
