before I have to get custom driveshafts? I have a 1979 fj40. I wanted to put in a SOA, but didn't want the 6"+ lift that comes with it so I though I would stretch her out a little and get a longer wheel base too. Seems reasonable that if I move the front 1" forward, and the back 1" backward I would probably lower the lift by about 1". Anyone have some thoughts? Thanks.

You won't get 6+" on the SOA, especially with stock springs. More like 4 to 4 1/2" and stretch it out anyways. Flip the springs around and it'll be more than 2" overall.

Yes this is true more like 4 to 4.5 and even when you flip the springs the arch is still their so you get the lift but now spread it out....got my cruiser to 96"...impressive

So if all I do is flip the springs (both front and back), will I need a set of custom driveshafts? Or will the stock ones still work? Thanks.

busdrivah- yes, you will need new driveshafts front and rear.

By the way - what are you guys talking about 4-4.5" on a SOA?

mine was 6" at least, and i took springs out of each pack...

the axle housing is 3" dia. + spring perch is .5" + spring pack is 2-3". That comes to 5.5"-6.5", right?

Good Luck-Busdrivah!!
