350 and 39.5's Just wondering if i should get a v6 member or stay with the 4. If i got a v6 is it just a drop in? No special mods?

35 spline dana 60. toy rear axles are great but they do have a limit and that would be way beyond any reasonable limit to ask of a 8" ring gear. while you are at it you had better go ahead and get a front 60 as well

O come on dont say that! I want to stay narrow. Also most of the stuff here is mud/mossy rocks. Not as much bite as you guys out west. I will be easy on it, and someday will probley go with 1 ton axles. But trying to see what this thing does first for a while.

I'd at least get rid of the 4 cyl diff and drop in a V6 or turbo diff. Those housings have some additional bracing built in to them.

(Oh yea... that would be a simple bolt-in procedure. )

I ran a 4 cylinder drop with 4:88's and ARB in in the rear for a number of years with out a problem. It is now in the front and still no problems. Just waiting for the great GG gears to blow.

I ran 5.29's with a lockright in mine for 2 years. with 33"bogs and then 36SX's. I got on it plenty of times. I even bounced the rear up like 3 feet in the Air on a ledge once at full throttle(4cyl) came down and broke a Birf and bent a rear spring, but the rear end held up. But, my friend with a 904runner stripped 8 teeth off his stock 4.10 open V6 diff with 33's dont know how, I just pulled it apart to see the carnage, he said he was badly wedged in between some rocks and just floored it then all the sudden he popped loose and as he was driving to my house he heard all the noise. But like Camo said, I have me a pair of D60's to go under my 4runner with 39.5's and im only turning it with a pepped up TBI 4.3. I wheel down south here almost like the stuff you do(no mud holes for me), but wet slimy rock, and trust me with a 350, 39.5's and even a V6 third . It won't last long.

Ok well i guess i will run this till it blows and get the 60's How much do they cost to shorten?
And more pics can be found at www.cyberautoworld.com/muddog

Maybe i should go with lc axles =) A guy i know has a lt1 and 39.5 boggers. Only broke one brif, he now has the new fields. And he beats the SHIT out of that thing. Just made it a stroker, has like 500 hp or so. Can lift the front tires, but its a LC. He was in the 4x4 and suv mag. He won some rock cralwing event.

I think the axleshafts themselves run about $60 a piece, if you can't do the housing work, I don't know how much that costs. I would say $120 to $300 depending on how much you do yourself....

On the LC axles, I wouldn't waste my time, if I were to use any non mini truck axle (and I am doing this) it would be dana. With the LC's you are still stuck with birfs, I don't care if they are a little bigger.....

stock 4cyl 4.10 3rds are cheap. Blow a few of them up and then swap in 60s

I stripped half the gears off of my 4.10s with open diff. Driving on the road. They always seems to go at the odd times. Fir the $50 or less it will cost you for a new diff, you can handle it. I bought a V6 3rd because the price was right but I dont see any good reason to put it in. YET.

I have 36" Buckshots with a Chevy 350 and TH350 tranny.
