Maybe someone can i.d. this. It's a 44-1. offset to the driver side. thought the early cj5 were offset to the pass. side that go with the dana 18. If so does anyone know the axle lenghts on each side. I'm going to try it on my cj7 was told it was on a 69 jeepster. pulled the cover looks to be 30 spline. any info would be good.

uh, looks like a D44 out of a '69 jeepster.

Don't know the offset, though I think it's going to be 27 spline not 30. lest it's been changed.

The 27 spline has tapered shafts. The 30 spline has flange. Unless it was changed

It's not offset to the drivers side. Yes the center section looks like it's offset, but that's done to get the pinion centered since it sits on one side of the ring gear.

Take a picture of the wheel mounting flange and we can tell you if it's a 30 spline or not.

That's a 30 spliner. If it were 19 (no such thing as a 27 spline 44) it would have the wheel flange bolted to the end of the axleshaft. The 30 spline versions are forged as one piece like you have there.

That article is incorrect. A Dana 44 would either be 10 spline, 19 spline, or 30 spline.

Just because it's on a website doesn't mean it's accurate. There are several things on Jeeptech.com that aren't correct. Terry put a lot of information together in a short amount of time when he built that and has admitted himself that it's not entirely accurate. Go look at a catalog for Jeep parts and check out the available splines for replacement axleshafts.

From the earlycj5.com webpage tech section (10 spline was actually prior to 1955, but 55 was the first year of the CJ5, which this is referring to):

10 Spline, 2 piece 1955- early 1960(?) 19 Spline, 2 piece 1960(?)- 1970
