I found a chevy. My friend told me that his brother is having a baby, and he knew that I was looking for a chevy so he told me that he might be interested in tradeing me for my honda. So we drove out and looked at the chevy, its a 85 silverado, power windows and dorrs, 4" lift, 35" Tires and its a long bed. No dents or anyhting and the body is in real good contion. The interior is also. Has a 4 spd with the granny low, and just had a new clutch, pilot bearing and all that shit replaced. It sounds real good and everyhitng looks good. The drivers side window is cracked, and he said he would fix that. The other thing that needs to be fixed, is it has a 10 bolt in the back and the rear end when out. I think the pinion is all fucked because when you put it in the gear to drive the driveline spins but nothing else, so I figured if I could find a Dana 60 or a 14 bolt I would just have him by that and put it in there. What else is there that I should check and look over?

Thanks

Check the frame by the steering box for cracks. 9 times out of 10 it will be cracked.

Ive had probs w/ the tranny-TC adapter, so check that for cracks, if you're lucky the rear could anly be the spider gears, but the 14 bolt from a 3/4 ton is a direct bolt on

Only prob with the direct bolt in is 6 lug 10 bolt and 8 lug 14 bolt or D-60. How hard do you plan to wheel it? Even if you put a 12 bolt in you should be fine unless you like to get air.

Also check the frame around the cross member under the t-case and where the rear shocks mount to the frame. Better yet just check the whole frame out well, my 85 has 6 big patches.

I know where you can get a great tow rig....and most of the leaks are fixed now...(mostly a wiped out T350 that was very recently rebuilt)

The pickup (K15/25 hybrid more K25 now...!) in the picture is available in Utah (Salt Lake). Delivery could be arranged, but it would have to be pretty quick. I have a merger coming up through the end of November and through early Dec.

It had a whole new body (exceptions trans tunnel, rear bulkhead, firewall and the roof) put on it in late '98 and was sprayed then.

Has a 402/T350/205, D44 and 14 bolt 4.11 gears, 305 70/16 Wrangler AT/S with about 15K on them and newer American Racing Baja's. The T350 is just rebuilt and the D44 is solid. I haven't touched the 14 bolt or the 402 (both are very functional). The truck passes Salt Lake County emissions/inspection with the exception of a license plate light and wiper/washers. I'm not sure how it would fare in Cal. The 402 could run a little better if you are good with a Q-Jet, but I was just going to put an Edelbrock Performer on it and drive it like the tow rig that I think it is.

Sorry for the essay and I need about $5400 or so out of it. (I also need a D44 ARB, 4.11 or 4.56 gears as well for the XJ if that helps at all). The only reason that I'd think of selling is to get a tow rig that could haul kids and the wife to Moab (ala Crew or Ext. cab-maybe a nice 'Burb) and whereever else I decide to go.......I hear AZ has some interesting stuff and I'd like to try the Rubicon one of these days....

If you want more info, please e-mail me at [email protected] as I feel like I've taken over this post and that's probably not real friendly like.

The 402 is a big block. I believe it's numbers said it was from '71 passenger car. For some reason I think it's from Monte Carlo or Chevelle, but it probably could be anything that came with the 402 of that year. It pulls pretty strong, but would benefit from a tuned carb. It runs a little rich, but not too bad (passes SLC emissions without any tweaking).

Mine hasn't went anywhere, and I'm not in a hurry. (It's my daily for the next couple of weeks, 'til the Jeep gets fixed, AGAIN!--POS>>>) If you still want it, shoot me an e-mail. I'll probably still have it. I like it too much....
