it's coughing up flakes of carbon out the exhaust pipe.
So much so that my wife is pissed that it's all over the hood of her car
Is this normal ?

I know a bad O2 will screw up a cat convertor but where did this stuff come from ?

-before the cat
-from the cat
-from the muffler and tail pipe

When I pulled the old sensor it was caked with carbon and I hope this shite isn't going right back into the new O2 sensor

Yup.
DTC 44 (Lean O2 reading) so it was catching up by running too rich.

much appreciated

It'll definately clean out. Just tell the wife to please be patient and that you will wipe off her hood!

I tell her that every morning :flipoff2:

Do you think the carbon has built up within the entire exhaust system ?
or just in the cat ?

I don't want to replace another $80 sensor ONLY to have it last 30K. ($330 from the Stealer)
If I need to pull apart the pipes I'll do it.

I just installed a new cat so I know it's good for another 75K or so.
