The first pic is of the Passenger rear quarter. It was bound to happen. Now I am thinking of building a very minimal rear bumper and cutting some more body to keep the current departure angle.

BTW I need some new lenses if anyone has a line on some. They can be cracked, just not leaky.

This is a different angle of same quarter panel

And one more of the exhaust that keeps getting hung up when I back down something. This will soon exit under vehicle body. I'll just carry Oxygen in the car to keep from dieing:)

Here is one of the Drivers slider that took a few too many hits on Rocker Knocker while in Prichette Canyon. Will probably have to have it rebuilt. I am considering placing a 3rd support to the frame right in the middle where the bend is. I would do this to both sides.

Pros of this. Probably won't ever bend like this again. Increased strength.

Cons: Might just tranfer forces to the frame and bend there instead. This is bad!

Any thoughts?

Regarding the first pics of the quarter panel. It has become evident that I need some sort of rear bumper. I saw a pic of what John (Redrangie) did and that is exactly what I had in mind. Something very slim, yet enough steel for a recovery point (for other vehicles of course!) and to protect things while backing up or while banging through an obstacle.

agghhhh sh:(t that look a little painful..

As far as the exhaust goes - mine was the same as yours and I kept cutting it shorter and shorter - in the end I cut it off by the last support mount and welded a bend on to bring it out behind the rear wheel in much the same position as a D90. I have thrown the last silencer in the bin :D for that westie exhaust note [although if you get on well with your neighbours you might not want to go there].

No probs crushing it since then - and no fumes....

Pritchett??? SWeeet!!!

Your sliders probably won't smash the frame because the force would be transferred along the entire frame rail, rather than just in the center.

Rear quarter panel: IF you want to start a bit newer than what you have, I have a white one I can pull off and ship to you.

'course you could probably find one a little closer.

Nice carnage! :flipoff2:

Michael,
I might take you up on that. I am thinking of painting the rear quarter panels with the same black bedliner I used on the lower half of the truck. I think it will look OK, but then again it might look like crap.

I ought to just paint the entire truck with that stuff... Except it would be really hot in the desert when it's 100+ outside. Never Mind!

Larry,

I had the same problem with the exhaust, and I did the same as Bodge, I dut it to the last hanger, welded on an extension, the clamped on a 12" downturn. That way it will pull off at the clamp, and I can point it out the side.

For the sliders, you might want to consider what I built. I used a piece of 2x4 box tube placed against the sill, stiched about every six inches to the chassis, and bolted to the sill with 3/4 angle. You can come by and check them out anytime you want. I hit them REAL hard at Carnage, 16" drop straight down with very little damage.

You might want to look at my rear bumper as well, as I tried to get some side protection, have a decent departure, yet still have a step.

Let me know, I will share the plans or help you build them. You could probably talk me and Bill into making you a set in a weekend.

That is pretty much what I had in mind. Very minimal with recovery points. Also a little protection on the corners. I need to come by soon and take a closer look!

I'll be calling you this week to chat.

Joshua,
Yes those are 35 X 12.50 X 15. I think the rims are the 8 X 15". I got them from Gulf Coast Rovers.

Adam,
If you are referring to the blue car with BBS wheels, that is just a Subaru WRX! Almost as fast as a 996. I wish it were a 996, but it isn't. That's my other toy. I am trying my hardest not to start with the Turbo upgrades on it.

Doesn't look quite so odd when you start with a four door.

Yep that white RR certainly looks good.

There must be a lot more work in doing a bobtail with a four door. I have seen one or two four door bobtails in the UK which retain all four doors.

Now thats a nice RR

Im leaf sprung through and through but if I was going to have a coiler it would have to be a bobtail Range Rover:flipoff2:

Now there's a new idea for you 9v:D
