I gotta get these suckers mounted this weekend, I've never run 'em before. Is there a spot you like to mount them? I've got 4 cheapo Pep boys lights. front and rear?

Mount them near each wheelwell so that they point or emit light around each tire for better viewing and for your spotter. The light from all four should illuminate all underneath your rig and make your rig look like it is floating.Just my $.02

I have 3 mounted under my 4runner. I put the front two mounted to the body mount right behind the front fenders. There is a hole on the back side of the body mount and since I have a body lift, I built brackets so I could tuck the lights up. Bolted the bracket through those holes, and then the lights to that bracket. Then wired em coming down through the front drain holes. I have one rear mounted right in the center of the rear crossmember(the one almost even with the rear shackles on a 4runner). I like em and they work good especially backing off or loading on the trailer in the night or working on it in the night out on the trail. One thing though make sure you can some how have them mounted with a cushion like a small peice of rubber. I get these lights really cheap and I break one everytime out (when they are on due to the shock if I hit something hard). My bulbs are not replaceable so I have to put a new ones in. Hope this helps

Mounted mine on the center cross member - next to the xfer case - one face front and the other rearward. Bought the $12 set from Autozone. They are thin sheet metal and use the 1156 bulb. Plenty of light, do not use too much power, cheap to replace. Have not destroyed yet.

Not sure if you noticed mine. I got 1 in the front of each front wheelwell and 1 under each door about where the body mount is.

On the backside of the body mount right behind the front fender. Don't think I even had to drill a hole for it.

Well they will have to be portable if you are gonna mount them to rocks... best just to mount them wherever you need light.

I would just mount them on the truck so I did not have to move them myself...

As several others have stated, I also have mine mounted on the front body mount under the cab behind the front wheel. I use the sealed beam small rubber tractor type lamps you see everywhere for about $8 or $9 a piece. The sealed part is cool because they are low and could get wet or muddy. Put grease on the back terminals behind the lamp or the connectors will corrode and the lamp will not function. Where mine are mounted I can turn them to point forward, back, left, right, or straight down. They have been invaluable for working on the truck at night (or a buddies), setting up camp or even for just tieing the truck down on the trailer after a long day of wheeling.

Thanks for all of the advise guys, I decided
to mount all four on my trans. crossmenber, as close to the trans as i could. each faces toward the base of a tire. I tested this setup last night and it gave me great visability from the drivers seat in front and behind the wheels. The underside is fully lit up for the spotter or repairs.
Next, I think I will hang a nice mirrored disco ball,,,,,,,,,

I was searching last night for some pictures of rock lights and couldn't really find any on trucks/4runners (just cruisers). I put mine in today and took a picture, hopefully it will help other newbies later on down the road when they search...

I haven't tested them yet in the dark so I'm not sure if they will light the areas up right, also I'm worried it might get in the way of my tires flexin', I guess I'll find that one out the hard way :smokin:
