so I just got a new winch instead....

It's the Warn 9.5ti "Thermometric" winch. I will give it (and the Krawlers) a beating in two weeks up in Nevada. Look for a writeup on both in about three weeks.

Haven't seen one of them winches in person yet. Are they much larger than the hs9500i. That picture makes it look larger in all dimensions.

I believe it's relatively the same size as the 9500hs.... It looks big because my front grille assy. is so small, it's chopped several inches from stock.

I'm surprised you didn't spring for the new "mosfet" model. It's only $1700!! Just saw my first one last week. No soleniods to go bad. It's all solid state.
