I've got the idler arm off my 88 V6 Runner (w/procomp2 IFS lift) apart and sitting on my bench. I was searching for the cause of a clunking in the front that is most noticeable when braking to a stop at slow speed. The only thing I have found so far is the idler arm has a little play. I figured the bushings my be worn. Now that I have it apart, I can see that the upper bushing is slightly ovaled. First question: Are the bushings a dealer only item? Second question: Any ideas about the clunking? All the steering components except the idler arm seem to be tight. All ball joints seem tight. Any help is appreciated.
