My IFS box is leaking either around the area where the steering shaft connects too it, or where the 4 bolts are just in front of that area.

My question is, are there any seals there that could be bad that I can replace, or is my box messed up?

Mine was doing the same thing, so I had it rebuilt. There is a rebuild kit available, if you want to do it yourself, but I'm not sure what all is in it.

How much did that cost you to get it rebuilt?

Sounds like we have the exact same problem, only mine has been installed for about 2 months.

Mine has been in for 10 years and it just started leaking out of the same place as well. What do we do? How much to rebuild and where? How difficult is it to rebuild in the garage? Any special tools?

Mine did the same thing, and looked everywhere to just only get the input shaft seal, even toyota, and the only option was to get the whole damn kit for $100, and all i used was the input seal, damn, i must love that box <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Same problem, started about 2 weeks after I put 35's on. Haven't fixed it yet. I'd just pick up another box from the junk yard, but with my luck the new one would do the same damn thing after a week or 2.

Sounds like an epidemic. I have the same problem. I can get the complete seal kit from Toyota for $75. Do you need any special tools to change all the seals? Or could I do it at home? I am no newbie and do 99% of my own work. Just curious about the tear down.

I rebuilt my box myself. Its not for the faint of heart, but not too bad if you have a factory manual to guide you.
I had trouble getting the correct parts from Toyota, so I bought a complete rebuild kit from John Vargus for about $50:

Here's Robert Canon's rebuild article: http://128.83.80.200/taco/box.html

Also, here's a link to this info for future reference: http://home.off-road.com/~bibelheimer/toyota_info.html#maintenance

BTW, the rebuild worked great- NO LEAKS so far! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Hopefully he will do an article about the AZ state Jambo. He got a couple nice stuck pix of me.
