Hey All,

I want to congratulate and thank everyone that has signed our petition to Toyota. We FINALLY met my personal goal of at least 1000 signatures.

Last month at about 750 signatures,(1 inch thick!!) I sent a hard copy to Toyota USA's customer service department. I received a letter last week that they it had arrived and that they were reviewing it. It was logged in under "customer dissatisfaction" (LOL) and that if I wanted to talk to them further to call with our case number.

Of course I called immediately and spoke to some customer service rep who didn't really know anything. He told me that our petition had been forwarded to the legal department for review and that they would be responding in the near future. I would post the phone and case numbers if I thought it would do any good for everyone to call, but at this point, I don't think it would. Maybe once I hear back from the legal department, we can give 'em hell on the phones.

I am happy that someone at Toyota has at least seen it and some sort of action is happening.

Keep the signatures coming in!!

I doubt you'll get a Tocoma/4-Runner type vehicle with a solid axle... the NHV standards of today and the fact that 99% of buyers will be happier with IFS is all that Toyota needs to keep with IFS.

You might have a SLIGHT chance of getting something along the orignal FJ40 lines as Jeep sells plenty of TJ's every year.

Really? Geeez. My 4runner rides a whole hell of a lot smoother than my Taco.

toyota changed to ifs for a reason, that was what the consumer wanted (apparantly)and it was meant to ride and handle better than leaf springs, but after reading about the post about the 2nd gens i wonder if that is true about the ride.

Coils DO ride better, a whole lot better than leaf springs. It's just the average driver wants a Cadillac ride with the SUV look, and doesn't give a damn about off-road capability.

I agree. My coil sprung solid axle FJ80 rides MUCH better than my leaf sprung solid axle 4Runner. BUT... My coil sprung solid axle FJ80 also rides better than ANY 3rd gen 4Runner that I've been in. It even rides better than my "used to have" '01 RAV4 with IFS and IRS.

Drew, any idea how many people are in the class action suit?

I wonder if there are more of them than we have signatures on the petition.

I find it hard to believe you found 1,000 people enough to think a petition would get solid axles back.

Rides better? Good.... now I know why I'm putting dozens of hours into an FJ80 SAS.

One thing though, don't confuse ride comfort with handling capabilities. I'm willing to bet the real reason is that the vast majority of drivers (with limited skills) today are far safer with IFS on their Expedition or Seqouia. Something to think about on the way to the supermarket... or trail.

1050 so far to be exact. If you haven't signed yet, then you're not doing your part!! Some day in the near future, we are going to run out of 1st and 2nd gen trucks and 4Runners to build. Then what? Tacos don't have a boxed frame, so we'll then have to make Bud build us new frames for those too?

It's time for us to get what we want. If you don't ask, then you don't get.

I have to applaud you for your efforts to save the solid axle but at the same time I have to say that your energies is being wasted in a futile attempt to make water go up hill. As has been pointed out only 10% of the buying public actually wheels a 4wd vehicle. Of those maybe 10% would actually need more clearance, larger tires and a solid axle. That's a damned small motivator to a company to produce a limited sale item such as a solid axled vehicle. The buying public wants a rugged looking mall runner, pure plain and simple. They want 4wd for the occasional days the snow plow hasn't run. Basically the buying public at large is posers. If you question this, look at the Liberty sales.

But the big battle is yet to come. Wait until they go to uni-body. At least with an IFS you can cut it out and upgrade to a solid axle.

But... if you fill it up with enough water, eventually it will go up hill.

Lets face it the solid axle suspension we have come to love is almost at its end ! What we should do is get Dana/Spicer to start producing brand new D44's and D60's at a resonable price! (both for under $1000.00 fully assembled) Then fire up the welders and let the real suspensions fly! .. just my $.02
