I am going to be picking up a rear axle out of an '88 tommorrow, and I am wondering if the only difference between the two is the width? If so I'll just keep my current axle for spare parts. If not what changes will i have to make to put it in my '83?

the width, the brakes(bigger), and the lspv (load sensing proportioning valve) arm mount location. FYi use the lspv arm and mount hardware that go to the wide rear axle for best operation.

you will need the e brake cable as well, you can still hook up the LSPV but i just eliminated it.
and like they said the only spare would be the 3rd.
