IF YOUR OIL LIGHT IS FLICKERING, CHECK THE OIL LEVEL FIRST, DIPSTICK.

Do not drive straight home, fire up the computer and ask us here at Pirate Bulletin Board Land Rover Tech Talk what is wrong. Do some hands on analyzing of your own before you present your questions here. Or you will soon be labeled as a newbie idiot and dealt with in Pirate fashion.

If you truly are a newbie idiot you can still gain more respect then the average poster here. Read your OWNERS MANUAL / WORKSHOP MANUAL about your problem. SEARCH the forum for similar types of problems. Get your hands dirty investigating the problem. Find some old cardboard and use it to take a nap under your vehicle. Then post your INFORMED question here with the background and your research. Even a complete non-mechanical 10 thumbed gnome will get some help from the hard core enthusiasts living here at PBB LR TECH.

Of course there may be some good natured harassing and such along with the helpful discussion. So toughten up and keep your skin thick. Reserve yourself from making personal attack against people until necessary, or just for fun. Pictures, links, favorite sites and famous quotes can increase you status among the Pirates. Which ultimately will reward your time spent here.

WE ARE NOT A PRE PURCHASE INSPECTION RESOURCE.

If you are considering the purchase of a Land Rover vehicle and want help finding a good vehicle. DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK. DON'T BE A LAZY BUGGER. If you really have no clue, try this. All vehicles have some common problems. Some more then others. Search the forum. Search the forum for common problems. For example; oil leak, power steering, transmission, engine, brakes. These are all terms you can search here on the forum. If a lot of common occurances come up then maybe you should investigate your potetial purchase for that problem. When you see a fault on a potential purchase then ask for opinions about it here.

OUR BANDWIDTH IS NOT YOUR MARKET PLACE.

Many savvy Pirates promote themselves here in PBB LR Tech. But the rule is; Speak When You Are Spoken To. Do not offer parts or service to fellow Pirates unless assistance is requested. Agressive marketing is for the Vendors section. Or get your own website and link to it in your signature.

OLD SCOUT IS OUR MODERATOR

So do not question his authority to control the subject matter of your posts here. Cater to his desires or suffer his wrath. Consider asking hs advise about problems you encounter using this forum.

SUPPORT PIRATE BULLETIN BOARD.

If you enjoy the experience here help maintain it. Red Star, Yellow Star and Vendor support are ways to do this. As Well As bringing informative subject matter to us for discussion. Especially new and progressive ideas.

WE ENJOY TRAIL CARNAGE AND REPAIR POSTS

If you must post material for personal attention then this is the exception. No research or explantion required for reality. So tell us what happened when you were 4X4ing in the BEST 4X4 BY FAR.

OS if this is not to you liking delete it, or tell me to.

Pendy-
As far as trail carnage goes i'll have you some soon. Kid in town just got a disco and he is insainly stupid. He friggen backed up a hill the other day just because we told him not too. Anyone need any disco parts? As far as the rest of your post goes i agree with it as well if everyone who posted here thought through there problems and did a little research it would make matters alot more pleasent. Also i think we should add the "No one cares about Disco Web" topic. When discoweb goes down dont post here asking what happened. But thats just my .02 i'm still just a newbie idiot.

Well, I'll try to do the right thing, and check in ... been lurking for too long, but since I haven't done a thing to my truck other than maintain it, I really have nothing to add.

Really quickly:

Alan Foster
Blacksburg, VA

'96 Disco, auto, no real mods to speak of ... have plenty of dreams, no cash, and a 7 month old son that's a lot more important. Been around Rovers for 8 years now, so I hope I generally know what I'm doing. First Rover was a '94 D90, which I sold and then got the Disco ... backwards way of doing it, but the 90 wasn't exactly fitting the needs. I recognize some of the folks here from the D90 list, I used to post there fairly often. Thanks for the info here, hopefully one day I'll have something worth posting.

Later,
-Alan

Just checking in.

And still debating whether I should ask for comments on the relative merits of intercooling versus working out a home made snorkel for my cummins powered 109 in order to get cooler charge air. I kinda already decided to go with the snorkel (see airflowsystems on the web) because that will be cheaper and easier than plumbing an intercooler, but I really don't "need" a snorkel for the conventional reason:wading (or the desire to have others think I ned it for wading (aka mall posing)). I think an intercooler may do more to cool my charge air, but a snorkel will be cheaper and easier and as such is arguably a better first option. I think. Once I make up my mind, I'll post the question in a hopefully clear way and ask for input, as I know there are some dieselology people here. In the meantime, if anyone feels like answering this newbie's nonquestion which is being held back for fear of wasting everyone else's time, feel free.

See? I really DO try not to ask dumbass questions. But somehow can't help myself!

I thank you for this post Pendy.
