How is the D44 setup on isuzu? Coil I guess but someone know? It's new to me to learn that there is D44 on it.

they are leaf springs in the rear where the 44 is, and they also have disk breaks, and the newer style have one of those cool aluminum finned covers, that would probably get trashed.

I have one on my CJ7, they are around 59" and have disc brakes, the brake lines are metric so you can reflare one end of the hard line (what I did) or get an adapter. The emergency brakes I haven't hooked up yet, still trying to figure the best way to work it in to the stock setup, or fabricate a center console emergency brake lever like the TJ's and Rodeo's. Mine came with 4.10 gears, Isuzu uses special 4.10 gears just like the TJ's, meaning the carrier is the same as the 3.73 and down numerically. Remember that if you ever want to buy a Detroit and retain the stock gears (personal experience).

If I remember correctly I think they were spring over, but hell I can't remember <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0"> Does it really matter, cut them off and put new ones where you want, doesn't get any easier than that. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> I paid $500 for mine.

I read about this possible swap in one of the mags.
1. I think it IS 6 lug.
2. I think it is aluminium.
3. The 44 parts from a Rodeo and newer Grands are not interchangeable with other 44 parts!
A 44, IS NOT A 44, IS NOT A 44!

Before you guys stick your foot in you mouth any further, you might want to get your facts straight instead of spewing heresay <IMG SRC="smilies/flipoff.gif" border="0"> The centers section is not aluminum, they have a 6 x 5.5 bolt pattern, are sprung under and have disc brakes. I am sure you could find the axle cheaper as the same applies for the 8.8 <IMG SRC="smilies/tongue.gif" border="0">

From a Zu owner and non guru...

The Isuzu D44 is a little different. It does have a pretty aluminum diff cover with mangleable fins (who cares) and the shafts have a 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern just like any other 6 bolt wheel save for dodges lame ass 6 on 4.5
They all have disc brakes, and the Isuzu has a kinda unique thing...a drum brake INSIDE the rotor that is used for the parking brake.

The D44 from a 98+ rodeo, amigo (yeah, i said amigo) and rodeo sport are all 5 link coil sprung units that flex QUITE well. Rodeo's had the d44 from 94 on. The Amigo was not available from 94 to 98 and during that 4 year hiatus there were SOME changes made to the rodeo. Most of them were leaf sprung, under. <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0"> All early Amigo's were leaf sprung but I don't think they had the d44, i think they have the Isuzu Corporate 10 bolt (a comparable diff to the d44)

What's all this boil down to?? Use the coil setup from a 98+ and I KNOW you are getting a D44, with 4.30's already in em, some with LSD. LSD is denoted by an orange tag hanging off one of the diff cover bolts and Option code G90 (i think) and the factory LSD is a TracLoc.

As far as adapting the Isuzu D44, you need to know that the carrier is a little different. It is also exchangeable and right now one of my buds is working with OX to get the OX locker available for Isuzu as a production item. He already has one in the rear of his Amigo and they are now working on the front one.

That is all the info i have off the top of my head, Randii and Belly Dragger have a bunch of info on this stuff. Randii is the INFO GURU in this area.

Sorry I can't be more help <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">
