ok , so it seems my 01 H.O. six speed cummins just ate its first vp-44. while im am replacing that i figure it will be a good time for some bigger injectors. i have a edge comp box, air filter and straight exhaust now. i may upgade the turbo in the future. do you the the jammer injectors are any good and what size would be pushin it with the stock turbo. was thinkin the stage three's:smokin: but they may be to much ? i would hate to spend that money and wish i had of went bigger.

I would not go over a 100 hp injector if you tow a lot. EGT's would be to high.

False.....

First off why dont you get your self a set of the industry's best injectors. Don M's EDM injectors from www.f1diesel.com. They are the best in every way. Low smoke, low heat and tons of power.

As far as anything over 100hp being too hot for towing that's just not right. I had a set of Don's Mach 5 (200hp) injectors with a drag comp box and stock turbo. I ran it like that for 1 year since I couldnt afford the head work to install my already purchaced twins but once I would of done my twins I was going to swap the 5's out for 7's.

Yeah Mach 5 and a stock turbo will get hot pretty quick if your WOT at anything above 3 on the edge. The EGT's were very controlable with my right foot. I towed my 5Klb toyota and all my gear to JV and the con a bunch of times. Hell I even live at 4K' and the egt's were fine. I wouldnt reccomend another compaines brand 100+hp injectors because there 100hp sticks will heat up as much as 200hp EDM's.

I by no way was easy on my truck, I beat the shit out of it and the turbo stayed stron. It was a HX35 which came stock on my 99 auto.

I went on the high side but depending on your stock turbo you could do Mach 4's and live a very happy life. I got my 5's when they were having a sale last october. The cool thing about the injectors and how to keep it cool was it supplied so much more hp that I didnt have to go above 1/2 throttle wile towing even up a hill. Just set the edge to 1X5 or 2X5 and your good to go.

yeah i figured that i could just turn the comp box off and be fine with the bigger injectors if i had to but the timing would be nice to keep. i have heard that dons injectors are the the best and dont doubt it at all but after spending 1k for that vp44 i guess i am trying to cheap out.
I think he was talking about jammers not EDM's and I said towing a lot as in weight. I dont think 5k plus some gear qualifies as a lot for these trucks.

So what I said is not all FALSE??
I dont know what mods you have since your sig is blank but, If you dont already have one get a fuel pressure gauge. Low inline fuel pressure is the #1 cause of VP44 failure. If you have a stock lift pump then you WILL toast another VP44. After buying a pressure gauge I found that my 4 month old lift pump would suck down to 0lbs at WOT. After buying the FASS I havent seen readings below 19.

If your going to get bigger injectors then your going to need to watch your EGTs too. An EGT gauge is probabally a good idea too. I bought the bosch 275s from Piers Diesel Research. They are cheap and really are a great towing injector. My best empty mpg is 21.5 and I average 10mpg fully loaded (24,600lbs).

I said my rig weighs 5K + 2K for the trailer + 3 all my gear, spare parts, 3 coolers, 3 people and enough weight to snap off all the wheel studs and send the wheel/tire combo flying off the 3500lb trailer axles... So yeah it was more then 5K lbs...But no where near the limit of the rigs max but still moderate to heavy....

I'm guessing your smart enough to already to have gauges. The VP44 on the HO motors are shitty and go out fequently...I lost one on my 02HO stock w/ 30K miles, but my 99 was still kickin after 130K.

Since your talking about injectors I just figured you took all the percautions and have gauges and a lift pump upgrade or a FP gauge, or a test gauge.

Dont get some cheap ass injectors. I think 275's are a complete waste of time and money especially if you already have a comp box. Dont go cheap and do it right once and not be regreating your purchace. I mean said you might have a turbo upgrade in the future so I'm guessing you and a killer rig and not some 65 year old grandpa slow lane rig.

Yeah I know he said Jammers but Jammers arnt cheap and if he's already spending the money he might as well get the best injectors made. Check the TDR and DTR classifides because there always a set of EDM's for sale....and Don's such a nice guy he can always refreash them if the thought of used injectors will keep you up at night...or just wait for a sale like I said. My Mach 5's were $200 off.

Keep your comp box on because it helps with MPG and EGT alot better on then off.

Before you choose what level injector you want you need to sak yourself what your goals are and where do you want to be in 1-2 years. Since my truck was a DD and I wanted a tow rig with nuts I didnt want no sissy 275's injecotrs I want some power and make it work my while so I got some big sticks and was all smiles with no complaint's. Smake was also controlable with the sub settings on the comp box. I usually ran aroun on 1X5 because I dont really care about smoke but setting 2 was 2X1 incase I wanted to be clean.... My truck was very contralable and ran just as good as stock no driveability issues at all...

Well I disagree that 275s are a waste of time and money. $335 to get your feet wet and it took about an hour to install. I felt a noticable difference with them and have been very happy with them. I have not used any other brand but I have heard good things about EDMs, but Im not sure Id be recommending Mach5s for towing. Im not saying it cant be done but you may need a turbo to match or youll probabally be an EGT babysitter.

Quote off their own website. Mach 5s
"At 200 HP these injectors are not for the average street driven truck. They are for use with large single turbochargers or twin turbo systems only."

I guess it really depends on what your calling "Heavy towing". There is a huge difference between 15,000 and 25,000 lbs. Be careful, you dont want to be towing while babysitting your EGTs. It gets old fast. My freind does this with his 6.0 PSD.
