I just put in a Jasper 22RE and the chain rattles sometimes on start up, but not all the time, anyone know why? my old motor did the same thing when the cahain was starting to go and then the guides broke. Wondering why it does the same noise intermittently on a "new" motor.

The timing chain tensioner works off of oil pressure. I seem to recall one downside of using an oil filter without an anit-drainback valve in it is it takes a few moments to build oil pressure

You nailed it on the head.

thanx for the responses, I was using a Fram (garbage) and I just switched to NAPA gold, made by Wix I think with the anti-drainback valve and Mobil 1, it seems much less apparent now, but still occasionally, it is brief, only a second or so.
