What year did Jeep Cherokee go from Leaf to Coil springs ?

Huh?

Mid size XJs (84-01) were all coil fronts, leaf rears.

Don't know about the older full size Cherokees.

I think the older FSJ cherokees/wagoneers were leaves all the way around, and the XJ was always coils in the front and leaves in the rear.

I picked up a 6 lug d44 60.5" wide that i was told it was from a 1980 smothing jeep cherokee.

The D44 rear was an option for XJ's from 87-89, but they were all 5-lug.

The six-lug D44 is most likely from a Wagoneer.

That would be out of a full size cherokee, and have leaf springs in the front something similiar to this, and those were always leaf springs front and rear

That is what I thought at first but what got me was the 60.5" width, I thought the full size were aroung 65" ??

The axle in the "full size" Jeep is not the same as a full width truck axle. The axle you have is more compared to a stock YJ axle width. We use them a lot in YJ's to keep the axle width very close to the same. Makes for an easy swap. A good axle to use for the rear is a Rodeo axle. It is the same width, same lug pattern, is a Dana 44, has 4:10 gears, and has disk brakes. If that helps.

Full size jeep Wide Track axles are about 65" Full Size Jeep Narrow Track which is different than CJ wide track vs Narrow Track is like Dan said. what you have, a Good axle to keep stock width in a CJ or YJ
