Yes I have searched.

I was wondering if it is possible to widen my current Dana 30 Narrow Trac housing to YJ specifications and run YJ Dana 30 axle shafts in the housing. The lengthening of the housing is possible through an experienced welder, but I was just wondering if a Dana 30 is a Dana 30 is a Dana 30. Why would I waste my time on a useless Dana 30 you ask, because I would like to use as many of my existing 1981 Jeep CJ-7 Parts on my Jeep YJ frame as possible.

QUESTION: Will Jeep Wrangler YJ Dana 30 Axle Shafts work in a lengthened Jeep CJ-7 Dana 30 Housing?

Thanks in advace.

In addition: I also would have to plan to use YJ Outers as well, correct? What is the situation with the vacuum disconnect?

Thanks,

the axle shafts are the same spline count but you can't use the long side shaft because of the disconnect. However TJ shafts are the same length, have no disconnect and use a bigger U-joint. Yoiu could then use scout dana 44 stub shafts and would have bigger U-joints in your axle and it will all work with your stock outers.

P.S. "Lengthening" the housing sounds scary, retubing is the right way to do it but welding can work if this guy honestly knows what the hell he is doing.
