I just finish reading a wheeling mag. were they had different products from Austraila. One photo showed a toyota rear axle that had coilovers and to locate the axle it had two thin leaf springs. The photo told that it was easier and less expense than a 3 three or 4 link system. I have a 94 Runner with coils in the rear. Could I replace my 4 link system with the leaf spring idea. I'm looking to gain articualtion and the remove of a bracket used with the coils to locate the axles. By doing this I will be able to raise my gas tank in the current location.

In conclusion I'm looking to raise my very low gas tank and gain articulation on a shoe string buget, but retain my good ride. What do you think??

Nope, bad idea. I couldn't believe it when I saw it.

You would get more articulation, but at the expense of any real axle control. You'd get major axle wrap with that setup. Definitely not something that would yeild good results.

i have not seen the pics but considered the idea about 2 months ago for about a split second and relized axle wrap would be a problem that would have to be delt with by making......at least a 2 link setup......duh. do it right or don't do it.

Well actually guys its a great idea. It just needs one addition, Traction Bars. I am going to be doing this to my truck in a few weeks here. I am just going to make some traction bars that will help keep the axle steady and then throw the coilovers on there with 2 leafs. I dont know about how much better this would be for rock climbing but for my use (Desert Racing) it will work out just great! Watch for pictures and video with in the next month or so!

Well I am thinking about it. A 4 link takes quite a bit of time. Its a lot of planing and bulding, its not that easy of a task. I think I am going to build the traction bars for now and have it working since its Desert Season now. Then early next year make the rest of the 4 link system. And actually I think I am going to make it 3-link since its just a midsize and not a full size truck.
