I've been told it's a Toyota thing and typical for the rear output shaft to leak. I'm going to be replacing the seal here soon. Any tips or advice? I know I need to get a 30mm impact socket to remove the nut. Anything else????
Get a seal from toyota. You may need to get a solid flat screwdriver to get the pinion nut to become round again where they lubbed it inward. Other that that be carefull while getting the old one out to not scar the case.
I just replaced the output shaft bearing last night. If you are going to remove the extension housing you should replace the inner sael also.
Here are the part numbers:
90363-28004 $27.21 (output shaft bearing)
90311-38140 $5.77 (seal)
90312-48001 $4.06 (seal)
36145-35010 $2.37 (paper gasket)
I can't remember which seal is the flange seal. The prices above are from a Toyota dealer.
Hope this helps!
