I'm looking to intall some rock lights on my FJ62 and a buddy's FJ40 this weekend, and I'm still not completely sure of the location for the lights. Anyone got any pictures I can check out, comments on a good location?? I bought four tractor lights for each truck but may use only two, depending on how much light they throw.

Thanks, GloNDark! What kind of rocklights are those? Looks like two of them, mounted far back, towards the rear spring hanger, am I correct?

Cheers!

I have 4 lights under the cruiser. Two directly under the floor boards and two in the rear inside the frame rails. All of them are just cheap ass tractor lights from Napa. I used a cheap relay from Kragen to get them to work really well and a low amp switch. Also make sure you mount them so can point them out or straight down. Pointing straight down is great for when you blow a pinion on the trail. (Ask me how I know! )

i have 4 plus k.c.'s up front at an angle total. the rocklights are on the backside of the fendershining between the fender and the tub...make sense? and then some bolted under the rear on that angle peice support of the frame in the rear. if its way too confusing then ill try and get a pic or aumthin. they are just some round lighhts. i got em from a train yard

Henry.. I can get you pics of mine this weekend. [Man it is frustrating to be 100 miles away from my Cruisers and shop during the week. ] I have two of the general purpose tractor lights on each side of the FJ40. Two are aimed at the back side of the front tires and two are aimed at the front of the rear tires. The forward aiming ones are mounted to the front side of the arm coming off the frame for the body mount and running board mount. The rear-aimed ones are mounted on the back side of this same frame arm. Make sure you use a good relay to provide power to the lights. I used a fog-light relay switch.

I've got 4 on my FJ40...the rear two are located directly above the rear solid mount spring hangers, and as many times as I've beaten those hangers on the rocks, I've yet to touch the lights. IIRC, I used an existing hole. These are angled down/forward, efectively directly at the back of the front tire.

The front two are located on top of the front frame rail directly in front of the bib and behind the tow hooks. They shoot more down than forward, and give a nice view of what the front tire is going over next.

I get very few shadows with this setup, and they are great for nighttime trailside repairs too!

When night crawling, I usually run only running lights and the rock lights so my spotter doesn't get blinded.

That's because as a new father you are definitely not allowed to be out playing after dark. Especially with devices that attract "sweet little Raver chicks" -- whatever those are
