Hi I was just watching Sky Televison it had a programme called Most Dangerous Videos or something like that.I saw a Chevy Blazer go off the top of Lions Back all the way to the bottom with no brakes and crash into the sand it look REAL UGLY.I was wondering if anyone knows the story or has been to Lions Back as it looks steep thanks from down under.

Yeah its steeper and longer then hell. I would rather loose my brakes or have a vehicle break on any other obstacle then that one.

That vid has been around for awhile. I think the people lived to talk about it.

I've been up it a few times. The worse part is turning around at the top. There actually is quite a bit of room, but to turn around with out a spotter is a bit unnerving! ;) Brakes are never an issue for me, I love my NV4500!

You end up making a 20 point turn up there and the whole I'm thinking about my brakes. It feels great to be back on the ground after coming down. Once is enough for me.

It is way over rated. I did it after doing Fins and Things at Cruise Moab 2000. And really it wasn't excitement after that, Kenny's Climb is much more difficult than Lion's Back. The first 30 feet or so is the steepest part. Hell's Revenge has some much scarier sections than Lion's back. I would say the primary difference is length of the climb. Really when you start driving there is quite a bit of room on the path. It isn't like you are off camber on the edge of a cliff. Really you stay pretty flat if you stay in the tracks. I felt pretty victorious after driving it because of the fame of the tragedies on that obstacle. Then a 15 year old kid drove up it in a rental Exploder with stock tires right after I came down. He didn't have any problems. It sort of let the air out of my sails. Most of the tragedies on that obstacle have to do with inexperienced drivers and/or alcohol. If you avoid those two things it really isn't that big a deal. And I don't think I'd waste another $5 to do it again.

It's not that Lions back is hard, its the pucker factor! The fact that your driving up a very steep narrow ridge that takes you up to about 200ft! Even though you may have 20ft on each side of you, it's off camber so that makes it kinda scary.

I've been it a couple of times and even had to share a lane going up while people were going down! That was kinda scary because it felt like I was on the edge.

The video has been around since like 1990-91, I've seen that video alot of times, and I'm sure that the dumb girl driving it had the tranny in "D" rather than L1, because that thing was hauling ass! The only smart thing she did was steer that bouncing blazer straight for such a long time.

Moab is like the bad ass coaster at an amusement park. You "know" you are gonna drive up the stuff, you "know" you aren't gonna roll, etc.. but the "what if" factor really gets the adrenalin going:D

If you think that turning around is sketchy just keep driving down the backside. I have been up lions back a few times but I have never gone down that side but I have seen it done and it is insane. Super off camber and the rock is not solid it brittle and has small rocks all over the place. Also on top there are some pot holes a friend of mine rolled his truck into one and it was so close to the edge all the crap in his bed went over the edge:eek:
