Ok here's one for you Jeep God's... What is the smallest effective Radiator you've run in your Jeeps? I am running into some space issues with my 59 Willys Wagon, stuffed with a 401. So if you've swapped for a large V6, I6, or V8 what have you used and how does it work? I need the name of the doner vehicle and approximate year. Thank you.

A good rule of thumb is you need the same frontal surface area as the number of cubic inches in your engine. A 401 would need 401 in^2 of surface area. You will probably be stuck running an aluminum custom radiator. I have a griffin in my Jeep atm, but I do not like the way the lower radiator hose attaches on the chevy style. The amc style may be better.

when i swapped an amc 360 into a n 85 cj7 several years ago i took the stock radiator to a radiator shop & had them convert to a 3 core for less than $100--never had any overheating problems & i'm in florida. no problems with hose outlets on wrong side , fabbing mounts etc.
frank:)
23 wide 19 high they sell them on ebay all day long for 169 delivered (or around that depending in who's you get) american made,2 -1inch cores, billet filler neck, bling, bling bling
I run a 27.5x19" Griffin Alum dual 1" cores in my CJ-7 with a overheating prone Chevy 400 stroked to 415, this radiator and a dual 11" SPAL fan setup mine runs right around the thermostat rating all day long!

Its very similar to usmcdoc14's radiator and you can get the outlets in either a GM or Ford layout!
Big block chevy 468, Griffin 26"x19" 1.25" cores. Works ,but could use shroud.
Put in a 3 core for a CJ v-8 and take off your manual fan and install an electric fan on either side. You would be amazed....
GDI makes a 4-row CJ radiator. i have one in my scrambler and its really nice. $200 at Autozone.

how do i find out more about the ebay-special Al radiator?

This Guy
or just put aluminum radiator in ebay search :flipoff2:
the one i got has beautiful welds and is killer for the price, just get the size and outlet type you need
I run the stock 3 core in my CJ with a 350. Chevy BB clutch fan and no shroud. Runs very cool .

How much did you have to trim out the grill and what else did you have to do to the grill to get the radiator to fit? Did you have any issues with headlight clearance?
I'm getting ready to mount a 27"x19"x3" C&R Racing radiator in mine, and I could use some tips before I start hacking up the grill.

I also run the stock radiator with a Chev 350/clutch fan in my CJ5 with no problems.

I have VERY little clearance between the headlight buckets, had to nocth the connector a bit to keep the wire from rubbing.. here is a few pics.. for some reason I only have pics of the pass side but the drivers side it cut the same amount..

Hope this helps...
