So are these basically the same thing? Is one made (or re-made I should say) better than the other? There is a PAy PAl Buy it now option on the Smurfield website so that may be why I get those unless I hear any different.;)

From what I have read, the jury is still out on the smurfields.

There is a ton of drama going down on the Toy board about new Longfields vs the old ones. The jury still seems to be out on that too though, some good and some bad experiences.

I have the smurf's for my toy axles too, but haven't run them yet. At the time I got them, they were WAY cheaper than the long's. I *think* the only difference between them is that Travis doesn't do any cryo treatment on the smurf's whereas Bobby does cryo them on the long's....but I'm not 100% sure on that.

my guess is the smurfs are just being anealed ie...heated up to a red heat having the ring welded on while still hot then either left out to cool or thrown into vermaculite (sp?) to cool down...this would make them less brittle so less prone to cracking but they would be softer and wear faster.

I aneal tool steels, various truck springs torsion bars, axles etc and other stuff so i can work into shapes for blacksmith tools etc
