Looking to build a trail only rig and found a CJ5 (don't know what year). It's already been started and has a lot of mistakes to fix. The motor is a 383 stroker with homemade motormounts out of 1/4" plate. (I coulda done the welding better on my 110 mig I use for bodywork). The tranny appears to be a NP435 or something along those lines. (Unless AMC made a bell housing that bolts up to a Chevy). The T-case crossmember has been dropped and welded in place with 1/4" plate. The axles are stock and so are the springs, shackles, and steering, brakes. (infact the front suspension is on the bumpstops right now). The only thing it has going for it is a good frame, body and rebuilt motor. I would end up redoing pretty much everything to make it worth it. The guy is asking 5000 for it. I'm thinking of offering 2000-2500 for it. Any advice on how to get em down to a reasonable price?
I would keep the motor, and body, box the frame do a saginaw conversion and atleast D44's but probably 60's and 35" or 38" Swampers.
