I know to some this may sounds lame, but believe it or not some people out there like to play music when they wheel. So I need to expose some ideas that make a killer wheeler stereo system. I'm thinking water proofed enclosures/ unique places to mount speakers and any thing cool that real world wheelers would want to know about stereo systems. It's part of an article I plan to do.:D

I am cheap and I was thinking the same thing. I was going to take an ammo can and mount the stereo inside of it with a cover over it like this in the rear seat for the spoter to control.

For the speakers I was planning on the cheapest marine speakers I could find and then mount them in the side of ammo cans boltd to the buggy with some thick screens overthem to keep mud or the pressure wash wand away.

I've been thinkin' about gettin' the XM radio thing with the boombox thing for playin' it in a rig. I think it would do alright. Except for charging/replacing batteries.

i have around 1800watts in my cj-5 :D this was deturmined to be the correct aplitude to drown out mud tires on the highway :flipoff2:

how the stystem is/will be set up(its all disasembled due to the jeep buildup)
head unit is mounted on the cage on the middle spreaders in a metal box (cut down electrical box,it was the corret size) with one of the boat weather proof fronts. the back of the box where the wireing exits is gromited and siliconed.
CD changer is mounted in the ammo can/center councel, same thing gromet/silicon. also has a 1farad cap
tweeters on front down tube
5 1/4's in the dash.
sound bar is made from 10ga stainless (found some metal) and is formed and sealed around the cage. it is also wedge shaped and sprayed inside with bedliner to cut down on vibrations. the top is one piece an sealed from the elements. it contains 2x 5 1/4's tweeters and all crossovers for the system.
sealed box with 2 10's behind the seats (ported system will suck in dirt/moisture like crazy) and is secured to the body in like 12 poits so i dont have to worry about it hitting me in the head in a roll.
all speakers were chosen for polimer cones and dependability. this can also be traded off with cheap/disposable :flipoff2:

The problem i am having is where the fawk to put the amps. i have already fried a Soundstream to water/dirt. i was thinking of placing them IN the sound bar and relacating the crossovers somewhere else. but the problem of venting it good falls in to play.
but it would be at the highest point in case of water crossings

Thought about that as well, start looking into marine grade units and you are good to go.

funny you post this thread today...

i just picked my new rig back up from having a stereo and several speakers put in it... the deck is well hidden under the dash and easily accessable, with one set of speaker in custom made "pods" under the dash, out of the way, and almost out of sight. for now a second set has been attached to the fuel cell mount's, since they're a pod style pseaker by design, but the measurement's were taken to make a small light fiberglass enclosure for a single 10in with the amp inside the encosure so it's easily unplugged and removed :D

We're doing audio and video in the rigs...most of it can be pulled easily for competition but some will stay in...like the onboard cameras:D
That will be in ADDITION to our 40" X-Terrains on DUBS...
Don't forget the disco balls that already hang from the cage...

and no, I'm not joking:p
