I did this a while back and it has worked out fine, but when I went to pull the axles for the spring over, I had a heck of a time getting the short side axle out. I ended up using a prybar through the top of the knuckle and intoo the c clip groove to get ti out. The tack weld had a little burr on it that must have been hung up in the splines of the lockrite or something.Anyone else had this problem?
FYI - I would not recommend this "modification". I feel it serves no real advantageous purpose, and *can* cause problems. I have had others share of their problems with different carriers (lockers, etc.) engaging the splines at different places, and what works for one may not go in far enough for another.
Besides - can't you just carry complete inner shaft and birfield assemblies to slide in place when you break one?
