Message from fish & game regarding Jergen's trail

Hello Pirates

The BLM road to the South fork of the American river is closed for the rainy season. This is evidenced by the locked gate access off of Jurgens road. Those who choose to go around this gate by vehicular trespass on private property are subject to citation. Two subjects were cited today for Off-road driving in a closed area and for Off -road driving causing environmental damage.

It would be a good idea to lets your constituents know that this area is closed.
There are those in our society that want you locked out of this area. A few violators may provide the ammunition for those do-gooders to get the area closed to vehicles for ever.

Do you think this was friendly e-mail to get the word out that the trail is still closed ??

Or was it someone from POR ?

Or most likely just some local yahoo's?

A lot of poeple would be pissed all the work we put in has been trashed before the 'anticipated ' reopening was to occur.

it's pretty cool that he took the time to write you. I would respond and ask who the offending parties are and post up names. This is part of the public record.

I'm quite sure it's some local punk ass kids in a bone stock beat up Toy or something. Posting that here is like preaching to the chior, but hopefully some of these punks have computers and lurk here.

WARNING: to you if you have or will bypass this gate. You better hope you're lucky enough that Vince, Lance, Bob or any of us dont find you there instead of a ranger. The fine is a cakewalk compared to what you'll get. :flipoff:

I'm glad DFG is on it, and i encourage them to keep writing tickets.

The early spring is critical for a number of fish species in the American River, as they are in the midst of spawning in the gravely sections of the river. Any increased sedimentation due to yahoo's tearing up the streambed or the adjacent area can lead to fish eggs being covered by silt. The silt asphyxiates the eggs which rely on dissolved oxygen that is delivered to them via the water column. The gravel needs to stay as porous as possible for this to happen.

Be glad we are dealing only with resident, non-migratory trout species in this instance, because if there were anadromous fish involved, there would be no Jergens trail.....

In brief: STAY THE FUCK OUT UNTIL APRIL 1st.

This is a DAMN GOOD IDEA, I with more clubs/DNR representatives/Rangers would do something like this. A simple sign that explains WHY something is the way it is goes a long way to keeping people happy and following the rules. Especially when it is something they are *used* to doing. If I encounter a gate/trail blockage on a route that used to not have it.. I get a little pissed if I don't know why its there... I never know if its vandals, punks, eviro's or a valid work party/official action... A simple sign to say WHY and all is well. Especially something like this were its a TEMPORARY closure, that can lead to permanent closure if people don't take it seriously... Yes the signs will get torn down/shot up, make them economically and just replace them... eventually they will stay put... My personal opinion is that a little signage can go a long way to keeping the "un informed", but respectful/respectable wheelers doing "the right thing"

good job POR and RCRC!
