Is this considered a backing plate? id like to convert my 3" axles to trailer hubs and not mobile home hubs. These do not look like your typical 4 or 5 bolt plate.

also, if i dont want to install brakes, do i need a backing plate.

Just get new axles. They are cheap. But no you don’t need backing plates if you don’t want to run brakes.

you're right. they are cheap. too much to worry about with these MH axles. plus im new to dual axle trailers and id like to be sure i have some brakes on mine.

ill be getting 2 3500lb axles to replace these.
