I've been running a Transaxle buggy for 6 years! I think it is the clear cut "budget minded" way to go.

However, contrary to most - I run additional gearing downstream of the T-axle. This allows you to use "cheap/available" hi-way geared axles and yet achieve seriously deep gearing to help the little motor run the rocks.

Mine runs:
Mazda 1.6 engine/T-axle w/ auto and 3.83 diff gearing
NP208 (kept in 1:1) to NP241 (2.72)
3.73 geared axles.

Top practical speed is 55-60 along w/ a 220:1 Crawl.
