Nic,
The only negative on the double wrap main leaf (military wrap) springs is the slightly higher weight. I've used 3 or 4 sets of mil wraps on my Jeep. I used rear mil. wraps front and rear. The idea is if you break a main spring you're not up the creek. I've never broken a mil wrap main, but have on single wraps. The stock mil. wraps got flatened before anything broke from over extension/compression without bumpstops. I got mine from JC Whitney. At first I used CJ springs but went to YJ's and the mil. wrap was available for that too. I massaged the springs by adding some more leaves, front and rear. The fronts wound up 8 leaf, and the rr's 9 to 10 leaves. I'm now using massaged 2.5" lift Old Man Emu springs. They're very flexy, but I've already bent a front mainspring. They just can't take it. I don't know what to use next.
Springs-over-axle requires more leaves than SUA, everything else being equal.
regards, as always, jefe
