I am looking in to a plasma cutter with a built in air compressor. I am planning on doing mostly body work and light fabrication with it. Anything very thick at all I will use a torch or other cutting tool.

I basically have it narrowed down to two:

The "Air Force 250" from Hobart
http://www.hobartwelders.com/products/airforce250ci.html

The "Spectrum 125c"
http://http://www.millerwelds.com/products/plasma/spectrum_125c/

I have a big Lincoln stick welder and a Millermatic 210, neither has given me any trouble - both are dependable machines. I don't know about Hobart; when I was shopping for my Millermatic the Hobarts seemed to use a lot of plastic internal parts. They seemed "cheap" so I am tempted to stay away. I have read alot about "Thermal Dynamics" and the "Powerpack" brand; but I am interested in buying them at my local welding shop. I don't know that they carry either of them. :shaking:

My air compressor is rigidly mounted in the corner of my shop, most of my work is done in another building; so dragging an airline to where I need it isn't high on my list. That is why I am interested in cutters with the self contained air.

any help?

FWIW I have had a Hobart 250 for about 5 years. It works great for sheetmetal work, but for heavier stuff you definitely need a larger unit.
