I've got a 91' YJ and have had it for about a month now. Its been running fine up until now. Today the engine started to misfire real bad and the idle has increased to 1500 rpms. Anyone know off hand what this could be caused from?

**edit**

Well i just went to get in my jeep to head back to work and it wont even leave the driveway now. the misfire is so bad that the engine dies when under a load. But sometimes when it is not under a load it will seem to run fine. Somebody please give me an idea where to start as this is my only vehicle at this time. Thank You.

Its a 4 cylinder. Thanks for your responses. The cap and rotor look good and the wires have no cracks. The plugs look good as well, not burned or fowled out. Fuel filter is free of debris also. I checked these things before I posted.

If you have a garage. Pull it inside, turn off all the lights, or just get in as close to total darkness as you can. Let your eyes adjust to the darkness, and look at the motor running. Watch your hands and fingers. If your plug wires are bad or shorting out you'll see it in a hurry!

I want to thank everyone for thier replys. After much troubleshooting it turned out to be a wire going to the fuel pump that was broken inside the insulation. It was barely making contact. Damn pain in the ass!!! Thanks again everybody!:D
