Stanislaus National Forest to Host Community Meetings on OHV Trails System

The Stanislaus National Forest is hosting three community meetings, one each for the Calaveras, Mi-Wok, and Groveland Ranger Districts, to discuss the development of a proposed action for route designation on the Forest. The three main areas to be discussed at the meetings are:

1. Developing a proposed action to designate an Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Recreational Trails System;
2. Developing a proposed action for any needed changes to the main road transportation system: examples would be changing maintenance levels of some roads to allow non street-legal vehicles to travel on them, restoration of non-system roads (roads that have been user created and not needed for the transportation system), moving some roads into the trails system;
3. Developing a proposed action to designate parking and access to dispersed camping areas.

The Forest will be bringing forward a "Discussion Proposal" for an OHV Recreational Trails System as a very preliminary starting point to help facilitate discussion. It is not a Proposed Action. There will be no Proposed Action to start the formal NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) process until late January or early February. The meetings will also focus on preliminary discussion and ideas on the roads system and dispersed camping/parking.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT EACH MEETING WILL FOCUS ON ONE RANGER DISTRICT "DISCUSSION PROPOSAL".
