how much should the floats be lowered from stock, and what other modifications can be done to make the 2bbl motorcraft more offroad worthy. is there an "off-road kit"?

Just run it stock. Mine always worked great in stock form.

Not sure what one you have but the 2bbl's from the EB's are as good a FI. I've run the same one for years and it's NEVER let me down. Up, down or sideways.

No offroad kit necessary and lower the floats "a little". If you have problems raise halfway back.

A newbie with a real question, will wonder's never cease. :flipoff2:

My buddy and I run the 2bbl off my EB on our sand rail...I wish I never took it off, but it runs like a bat outta hell on the rail.
BTW does anyone know how to tell if a 289 has HI-PO heads, with out removing the top half of the engine???---After all I am a newbie:flipoff2:

Remove valve cover and somewhere under 37 years worth of oil gunk it has 289HIPO on the casting #. Or if you a positive that it is a 68 engine that hasnt been touched. Not sure if they put them in EB. Mustang knowledge only. If they are wanta sell em? :D

Some of the "early" early Broncos (not sure what years) had a spring dampened float. Also early Jeep CJ-5s with the 304 V8s also used a Motorcraft 2bl with the "off road" float also. Might still be available (the spring kit) from one of those Jeep restoration specialists? If anybody was interested.:D
