Update 3-14-04: Got a maiden voyage on the new setup this weekend. It did WAY better than I ever expected. It was a pretty simple shake down run, so the hard stuff is still to come. But I am very happy with the results. 4 link worked great with almost NO rear steer. The shocks are pretty well tuned for the weight and run AWESOME at high speeds. And the tube worked seemed to give me a lot more clearance in important places. Here are a few pics from this weekend.

Update 2-28-04: Took her out for a quick maiden voyage around the neighbor hood. Found something to drive up and snapped a few pics. I'm still not happy with my front end flex (or lack there of), but I'm going to wait to hold judgement until I actually get a chance to wheel it. I did have to add a little oil and nitrogen to the shocks. Static height I have about 9" of travel down and 5" up. Tell me what ya think.

ok.....like this hasn' been done a million times already. But when you spend that much time on it you would like to let people know. So here are a few pictures of my 4 link, cage work, and shocks.

Tell me what you think. I am about a month from having it on the road. Should be fun.

Thanks to Billa Vista for his Fox Shox writeup. The spreadsheet is going to come in handy.

Rotozuk: Thanks for sticking the pics in there. That's MUCH more convient (sp?)

Jaffer: What's this about Elfy and needing more cross diaganol bracing???? I hadn't heard.

DesertCJ: I hear ya on the rear axle thing. I already have my eye set on a FF14 bolt! I wanna do both front and rear at the same time when I do it. So far the rear axle has held up, but I DEFINATELY baby it. Won't be long before it leaves me high and dry in the middle of nowhere! Thanks for the compliments though.

For those that wonder what the plans looked like for my 4 link, you can see them at:

EDIT: Just did a search and found the link to Elf's crash!!!! I see what you mean. I do intend to add one behind the two front seats running horizontally to mount seat belts to. I'll be sure to diagnally brace that as well. Thanks.

Looks good I am getting ready to start hacking on my EB soon. Ordering the air shocks next week. Were did you find the best deal?

I like the rear flex shot but how well does it travel once all your jamb nut are tightened? I have not decided what ends to use yet!

Keep the pics comming

I bought the shocks local from a guy who is a Fox Shox rep. $450 for the pair. That included tax, shipping, etc. That's a good deal on the market today.

rokcrln: I have more travel in the heim joints than I do shock/suspension travel. The pics of it all flexed out will NEVER be obtained in real life as the shocks and the way I have them set up will never allow that much travel. I have found that with the jam nuts all tight, I have more than enough heim travel to allow the suspension flex I will get. I used 1-1/4" heims. The threads are 1-1/4" and the through hole is 1". I also made some of my own misalignment bushings. So I use a 3/4" bolt.

One more thing about the shocks, don't forget that you will probably need to pick up a nitrogen bottle and regulator. Most likely your weight and such will require you to change the nitrogen pressure. It looks like the "factory" 200 psi and oil volume is going to be just right for me and my weight. But as Billa Vista found out, you may need more. So be sure to include those into the cost. Regulator is $110 new. The bottle you can usually rent from a welding supply place for .15 to .20 cents per day. Gas is about $25 to fill a tank. Just FYI.

You won't hear me complaining. Looking at cool stuff I can't afford to do myself is one of the main reasons I sign into the PBB each day:p Looks pretty amazing up to this point, can't wait to see some action pics once it is finished. Good luck :D
